We are LIVE! 🚀 The journey behind Breakout: NEON DRIFT

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to finally share Breakout: NEON DRIFT with you all. What started as a simple experiment to recreate a classic arcade mechanic quickly turned into an obsession with "Game Feel" and retro aesthetics.

This isn't just another brick breaker. My goal was to take the core loop we all know and inject it with pure adrenaline. I wanted to see how far I could push the visuals and audio in a browser game without sacrificing performance.

🔧 Under the hood

The game is built in vanilla JavaScript (HTML5 Canvas). One of the biggest challenges was getting the physics and controls to feel tight and responsive across all devices—from a desktop PC to an iPhone 15.

Here are a few things I focused on during development:

• Continuous Flow: I hated how old games paused between levels. In NEON DRIFT, when you clear a level, the game seamlessly transitions to the next. The ball keeps moving, the paddle shrinks, and the speed ramps up. No breaks, just flow.

• The "CRT" Vibe: I spent a lot of time tweaking the scanlines, vignette, and screen shake to really sell that 80s arcade monitor look.

• The Audio Engine: Instead of just looping a track, I built a dynamic audio system that mixes tracks seamlessly so the music never stops or feels repetitive.

🎮 Why play it?

If you like high scores, synthwave, and games that respect your time (instant load, no fluff), I think you’ll enjoy this.

It’s completely free to play right here in the browser.

💬 Feedback wanted!

This is my first release under the SmarProc Games label. I would love to hear what you think about the difficulty curve and the touch controls. Is Level 10 too crazy? Let me know in the comments!
